Mastering sight-reading on the violin goes far beyond identifying a note on a staff; it requires an immediate connection between a visual stimulus and a precise motor response from the fingers on the fingerboard.
Created to address this challenge, Atrilín - Violin Reading Trainer is a mobile app project designed to transform musical reading into a smooth, efficient, and highly engaging experience.
Grounded in Pedagogy and Science
The concept originated from a practical teaching need: optimizing valuable lesson time. Instead of spending limited class minutes on the mechanical process of mapping notes to finger placement, the app helps students internalize this skill independently.
The theoretical framework draws from ongoing research for the book "Biomechanics of the Violin – Articulation of the Left Hand" (Tomás Cunsolo, Ed. Boileau), as well as previous academic work on motor learning. The core pedagogical goal focuses on the intersection between declarative memory (knowing the note) and procedural memory (the physical execution of the finger on the string).
By isolating these neural connections within an interactive environment, the app helps the brain automate physical responses to visual cues, reducing cognitive load during actual practice with the instrument.
A Complete Practice Ecosystem
Atrilín - Violin Reading Trainer combines technical rigor with a flexible design suited for all learning stages:
1. Progressive Adventure Mode
A step-by-step path ideal for beginners or those building a solid foundation. You start by reinforcing open strings and gradually introduce fingers and new positions level by level.

2. Custom Training for Advanced Positions
Designed for intermediate and advanced students looking to isolate specific skills. It allows practice across the entire fingerboard, covering everything from 1st to 11th position to speed up reading in higher registers.

3. Gamification and Global Leagues
Built around mechanics that build daily habits, the app features hearts (lives), streak counters, and a global leaderboard. Earn points through practice to advance through different leagues (Wood, Bronze, Silver, and Gold).

4. Timed Challenges
Test your reaction speed with 60-second timed challenges designed to measure reading fluency in real time and unlock trophies for your virtual display case.

5. Placement Test and Full Customization
If you already have reading experience, take the placement test to jump straight to your appropriate level. The app also supports both Latin (Do, Re, Mi...) and English (C, D, E...) notation systems.
6. Guided by Atrilín
Throughout the journey, you are accompanied by Atrilín, the official mascot who celebrates your milestones, reacts to your progress, and keeps motivation high.

An Evolving Tool
Atrilín - Violin Reading Trainer is available in both English and Spanish. As it is currently in its beta phase, feedback from teachers, students, and fellow violinists is invaluable for refining the tool and adding value to the musical community.
